Student Services

Student Services is a large multi-disciplinary team that plays a crucial role in supporting our students. The Wellbeing Service is an umbrella term used to describe our various teams, Counselling, Disability & Mental Health, Faith, Welfare and Student Liaison. We provide a holistic approach to student support to ensure students’ individual needs are fully met supporting their academic success, adding to their student experience and educational develop. The Wellbeing team is a busy and in-demand service. We are a tight knit team who help and support each other. We work hard and importantly have fun along the way. 

The Role  

This is an important role within the Student Services Department to support and contribute to a professional specialist advice and guidance service for students in crisis, distress and who are experiencing welfare issues such as; Care Experienced and Estranged students, Sexual and Domestic assault and homelessness.   

The post holder is responsible for leading on support for students reporting either domestic violence, sexual harassment/assault or misconduct and working collaboratively with other Advisers, Seniors & Heads within the wider Student Services to support students affected by any of the above.  The successful candidate will also work with the Senior Welfare Adviser and Head of Welfare on training, report writing and other events/projects across the academic year related to domestic violence, sexual harassment/assault or misconduct.  The role requires close working with stakeholders inside and outside the University including; specialist charities, police, social workers, government agencies, Academics and other professional service teams.    

This is a front-line on site role.

The Person 

The University is seeking a self-motivated, proactive, and organised individual to work effectively in the Welfare team as the lead on victims of domestic violence, sexual harassment/assault or misconduct. The successful candidate will deliver an efficient, effective and informed support service to students.  

The successful candidate will have specialist training, knowledge or experience in the lead area of domestic violence, sexual harassment/assault or misconduct. They will also be competent in safeguarding young people and adults in an educational setting.

They will have excellent interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to remain discreet, calm, diplomatic and professional.  You must have proven working knowledge of the needs of individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds.  Knowledge of safeguarding and the Equality Act 2010 is essential for this post, as is previous experience of working in an advisory role ideally within an educational setting.  

Applicants must have good IT skills with proven experience of working with IT systems to record, monitor and report on a wide range of confidential matters together with attention to detail. 

This position is not open for current UWL students.
