Applications are invited for a part-time PhD studentship (4 years) to begin during the first semester of academic year 2024-25, preferably before October 2024.

The School of Health & Sport Sciences is offering two funded, part-time PhD training posts. The postholder will register, and have their fees met, for a part-time PhD in Health & Sport Sciences. In relation to fees the studentship will only cover amounts given for Home fees in each relevant year.  Overseas fees will only be covered up to the Home fee amount, if applicable, the applicant must pay the difference between the Home and the overseas tuition fee rates given at the time of payment.

A requirement of the PhD studentship is that the successful applicant can undertake a fixed term Doctoral Demonstrator role. This will be a paid position within the School of Health & Sport Sciences and is offered on 0.5 FTE basis. The role is a fixed term position for 4 years, or until you have successfully submitted your PhD (whichever is soonest). The purpose of this role is to provide PhD students with working knowledge from within an academic environment. Due to the fundamental aim of the role, to train and develop candidates whilst they are undertaking a PhD qualification, this position can only be offered to those enrolled on the PhD studentship.

Projects

School of Health & Sport Sciences at Liverpool Hope is building its research profile across its established Research Groups. It has excellent research facilities and can offer supervision in a range of Sport- and Health-related themes limited to Sport Coaching, Physical Activity & Health, Strength & Conditioning, Sport Performance, Musculoskeletal Health & Rehabilitation, and Exercise Prescription in Health & Diseases.

Doctoral Demonstrator role

The postholder will primarily provide support for the teaching of undergraduate students in specified areas based on qualifications, knowledge, and experience.

Face-to-face teaching will not exceed 6 hours per week. The postholder will be required to provide other general support to the School.

Salary for Doctoral Demonstrator role: Grade 6 (Spine point 24), £31,396 pro-rata for part time, actual salary £15,698. This is subject to the usual statutory deductions of Tax, NI and Pension.

Eligibility

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in a sport-related discipline. Other equivalent qualifications in Health & Sport Sciences may also be considered depending on the proposal. In addition, applicants should have, or expect to hold when taking up the post, a distinction-level Master’s degree, at the time of registration for the PhD.
