We are recruiting a Research Fellow for the RISKADAPT project to conduct research on the restoration for critical infrastructure toward resilience modelling with a focus on road networks including bridges. Specifically, we are looking for a motivated researcher with leadership skills to steer the activities on risk and resilience assessments at infrastructure asset and network scale for variable hazard scenarios and help us deliver the RISKADAPT project. Role Summary

  • Work within specified research grants and projects and contribute to writing bids 
  • Operate within area of specialism
  • Analyse and interpret research findings and results 
  • Contribute to generating funding 
  • Contribute to licensing or spin out deals with demonstrated commercial success (such as revenues, asset or company sales, IP generated) and/or public understanding of the discipline or similar

Main Duties

The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.

  • Collect hazard, exposure, vulnerability and restoration data for critical infrastructure
  • Applying statistical analysis to dataset 
  • Perform risk and resilience assessments at infrastructure asset and network scale for variable hazard scenarios
  • Assess the impact of asset failure on the performance of transport systems
  • Prioritise and optimise restoration measures at network scale
  • Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications
  • Contribute to writing bids for research funding
  • Contribute to developing new models, techniques and methods
  • Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etc

Person Specification

  • PhD in Civil Engineering
  • Research experience on critical infrastructure risk and resilience analysis
  • Understanding of hazard, vulnerability and resilience models
  • Experience in GIS 
  • Programming skills (e.g. Python, Matlab)
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary groups
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
