Specialist Mentor (Mental Health)

The University of Roehampton is recruiting to the role of Specialist Mentor (Mental Health) to join our friendly Disability Services Team. You will join our team of specialist mentors providing tailored one to one support to students with Mental Health conditions to help them address their barriers to learning.

This role is ideal for someone who is looking for approximately 12 – 18 hours per week during University term time. The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience in Mental Health support; understand the particular demands of study in HE and recognise when there is a need to refer to other services.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Working with students on a one-to-one basis to identify their individual needs and strengths and developing a support programme that will facilitate the growth of independence.
• Helping students become familiar with University procedures and the range of support mechanisms that are available to them
• Liaising with the Disability Adviser about specific student cases, their needs, their academic progress and any wellbeing issues that may need referral.

The successful candidate will have:

• Up to date membership of a suitable professional body (such as BACP)
• A high level of self-motivation and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience of dealing with risk and raising concerns where necessary.

The rate of pay for Specialist Mentors is £48.89 per hour. This rate includes student contact time and annual leave. Induction and any training days are paid at the rate of £25.96 per hour, inclusive of annual leave.  When required this will be agreed in advance by your line manager.
