Merton College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced welfare professional to support our work in providing a positive student experience. They will play a key role in helping to shape and deliver welfare and wellbeing systems and structures, oversee and promote wider community-building activities, and provide welfare support to individual students.
The main duties of the post will be to develop and implement welfare and wellbeing practices and policies, to act as the College’s Safeguarding Lead, to have overall line management responsibility for the welfare team, to handle individual casework (meeting students, conducting risk assessments, helping to support students with disabilities etc), and to ensure that appropriate training and data management practices are in place.
The successful applicant will have a qualification relevant to the role or extensive equivalent professional experience of dealing with individuals with a range of personal, emotional, health or disability-related difficulties. They will be an excellent communicator and have a good understanding of university life and students’ concerns. They will have line-management experience as well as strong administrative skills. The postholder will be able to demonstrate high levels of discretion and an ability to operate effectively in frameworks requiring rigorous systems for managing sensitive personal data. They will also be willing to engage in community events and activities so that they are a familiar and accessible figure around the College.
