Job Summary

The Interim Director of Institutional Marketing and Communications will spearhead the development and execution of Imperial College Business School’s marketing and communications strategies. This role is crucial in aligning marketing efforts with the school’s strategic priorities, providing expert advice to stakeholders, and delivering integrated marketing plans for major projects. The Director will oversee marketing and communications support and services for internal academic and professional departments. 

In addition to strategic oversight, the Director will lead brand strategy, enhancing the school’s external identity. Responsibilities include media activity management, marketing effectiveness evaluation, and media agency relationship management ensuring high-quality results. This role involves supporting the school’s communications and PR strategy in collaboration with the Dean’s office, managing a high-performing team and representing the school at internal and external events. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead the Institutional Marketing and Communications Strategy: Develop and deliver integrated plans, provide strategic advice, oversee support for various academic and administrative areas, and ensure alignment with the school's strategic priorities.
  • Manage and Enhance the School’s Brand: Oversee brand strategy and external identity, coordinate with Central Communications for maximum impact, manage media activities and key events, evaluate marketing effectiveness, and ensure high-quality, cost-effective results from media agencies.
  • Lead the School’s Digital Strategy: Manage the website, social media, and digital assets, implement best practices in web design and analytics, support stakeholder management, and ensure optimal performance on digital platforms.
  • Oversee the School’s Communications and PR Strategy: Develop and execute communications and PR strategies, manage media relationships, handle reputational issues and crises.
  • Manage and Develop the Institutional Marketing Team: Provide line management, set priorities, and manage team workloads. Oversee relationships with external agencies, freelancers, and suppliers.

Essential requirements 

  • Educational and Professional Background: Degree level or equivalent experience, certifications, or specialized training in marketing, and successful leadership at a senior level in an international business.
  • Strategic Expertise: Proven experience in developing and delivering brand strategy in Higher Education.
  • Marketing and PR Acumen: Track record of successful public and media relations strategies, and expertise in developing and delivering integrated, multi-channel marketing campaigns.
  • Digital and Financial Proficiency: Experience in leading digital projects (including SEO and website management), managing marketing agencies, overseeing digital communication channels, and managing budgets over £1m.

Further information

The role is a six-month fixed term contract.

The role is a hybrid role requiring the post holder to be on campus 2-3 days per week.
