Senior MetaData Engineer

This is an exceptional time to be joining the University of Southampton as we transform our strategic data landscape. Working within the University’s IT department, iSolutions, this is an exciting role offering the chance to play a critical part in the implementation of the new data platform.

About the Role

The primary role objective is to ensure that data structures and models are well designed and documented, and align with a robust data governance structure in support of the University’s digital strategic aims. This role aligns data capabilities with the University's strategic growth plan, especially supporting the international growth agenda and desire to provide compelling data capabilities in support of effective system interoperability and reliable data insights. 

What you’ll do 

• Lead the implementation of new metadata analysis services and solutions from small point solutions to enterprise-wide capabilities.
• Maintain metadata services throughout their entire lifecycle.  Deliver reliability and continued quality of metadata 
• Support the Architect team in creating a sustainable ecosystem of metadata services delivering value to the University.
• Deliver coaching and mentoring for colleagues within the team.

What you’ll bring 

• Technical expertise with data models, data mining, database schema design, data segmentation techniques and metadata modelling formats.
• Metadata specifications design to inform data engineer development of standard University integration platforms
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
• The integrity required to work with both commercially sensitive and personally identifiable information.
