Assistant Teaching Professor in Nuclear Energy (Part Time)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Assistant Teaching Professor in Nuclear Engineering.

We are seeking an individual to take responsibility for the delivery and assessment of two important lecture courses: 4M16 (Nuclear Power Engineering) and NE1 (Reactor Physics). 4M16 provides an introduction to nuclear power and nuclear engineering and is available to third- and fourth-year Engineering undergraduates, fourth-year Physics undergraduates and various postgraduate students. It is a popular course currently attracting more than 100 students. NE1 is a core module within the MPhil in Nuclear Energy, taken by all students on that programme. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to supervise final year projects within the Engineering Tripos and projects within the MPhil in Nuclear Energy.

The successful candidate will be based in the Energy Group of the Department of Engineering. The group has a long-established reputation for experimental, computational and theoretical research in thermofluids across a wide range of application areas. The Energy Group has access to state-of-the-art shared laboratories and facilities, and collaborates widely across Engineering, the University and elsewhere.

Educated to PhD level, or with related equivalent experience, in topics related to nuclear engineering and reactor physics, the successful candidate will demonstrate a strong technical knowledge across a range of topics. You will have a proven track record in relationship management with experience of teaching delivery and/or the design of teaching materials. Demonstrable expert knowledge of teaching of a particular subject involving a critical understanding of relevant theory and/or principles outside of the immediate specialism is essential. You will also be able to demonstrate presentation skills for spoken and written communication. Experience in nuclear engineering research would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be based at the Department of Engineering's Trumpington Street site in central Cambridge.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 August 2026 in the first instance.
