This is an exciting new opportunity for a pro-active and motivated individual with an interest in supporting research to join our small, highly-motivated research support team in the Faculty of Engineering & Design.

About the role:

The Research Support Officer is a varied and dynamic role, and will be responsible for managing high-level projects linked to the Faculty’s Research Centres along with other research-related initiatives, and will play a vital role in providing leadership, management and operational support in the Faculty Research Support team. 

This new post will have direct line management responsibility for one Research Centre Coordinator, ensuring high quality administrative support is provided for the Centre Leadership Teams. Our long-term aim is to develop the team to provide increased support for the centres, and this role will have a key role in planning and implementing this. 

The role will work closely with the Faculty Research Strategy Implementation Manager, Associate Dean (Research), the Faculty’s Research Centre Leadership Teams and colleagues in central University services, such as Research Innovation Services. 

This post is offered on a part-time time basis of 0.8 FTE (29.2 hours per week).

About you:

Our ideal candidate will:

  • have excellent organisational skills and can prioritise conflicting demands effectively while maintaining attention to detail,
  • have excellence communications skills and the ability to build links with colleagues at all levels,
  • work proactively both independently and as part of an agile team,
  • have strong IT skills, particularly in Office 365 (including Word and Excel) and confidence to learn new systems quickly,
  • have the ability to analyse and interpret complex information,
  • demonstrate a good use of initiative and creativity in a rapidly changing environment.

Previous experience in managing or supervising colleagues would be a bonus and some experience of, and an interest in, supporting research would be an advantage.
