The Opportunity:

Maintenance Services employ a mix of circa 100 multidisciplined trades, semi-skilled, technical and administrative staff who are responsible for the planning, organising, service and repair of over 350 core buildings within the University of Edinburgh estate.

We now require a Deputy Maintenance Services Manager to manage the planned operations within Maintenance Services. You will have direct line management responsibility for the Compliance Area Team Leader, Maintenance Services Coordinators and a team of centralised trade staff.

You will use performance management data to focus on the effective control of statutory and non-statutory PPM work through the Compliance and Trades Teams to ensure overall compliance. You will also support technical maintenance project work and oversee stock management processes and solutions.

We are looking for an experienced individual with a Maintenance/FM background and who has managed multiple teams whilst encouraging staff development. You will be a strong team-player who is capable of working both in a team and on your own and preferably have financial/budget management experience.

Applicants should be competent using Microsoft Office, including Excel & Outlook and be able to interpret and present different types of data, demonstrating a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, whilst working efficiently to deadlines. Previous experience of using a CAFM system would also be beneficial.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Extensive maintenance or facilities management experience.  Relevant technical qualification with evidence of managerial experience. 
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and leadership skills, with a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.
  • Experience of managing operational performance, establishing/delivering relevant KPI’s and targets, producing related reports as required.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with work planning and estimating experience.
  • A comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of relevant statutory regulations relating to Building Maintenance and compliance.
  • Sound practical knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act, the Construction Design and Management Regulations and other relevant statutory requirements, and the consequence on non-compliance.
