The Faculty of Human, Social and Political Science is looking for a dedicated, self-motivated individual to join the Faculty IT team. The IT Systems Support Analyst will join the Development, Infrastructure and Research support team responsible for second/third line support, maintenance and development for all the Faculty's IT services supporting administrative, teaching and academic needs.

In addition to being a part of the technical support team for the typical range of IT systems and services within a University department there is a key need to develop, maintain and support systems and applications with teaching and research needs specific to the subjects of the departments. The team has a strategic remit to provide cloud first digital and automotive solutions for teaching and research. There is also a substantial collections management system for multiple museums that will need local based support and liaison with current external development partners. Working with and deploying systems and services provided by University Information Services and other external vendors is also required.

The Development, Infrastructure and Research support team alongside the Frontline Service team, provides support on all aspects of computing to all members and areas of the Faculty across all departments which we support.

We are looking for the following:

Qualifications: 

  • Educated to A level standard of qualification or equivalent level of practical experience.
  • Experience and skills
  • Experience of software development methodology including version control techniques.
  • Experience of API usage to push, pull and transform data from multiple system types.
  • Experience of database development and maintenance.
  • Experience of web development and languages such as PHP.
  • Experience in a service environment dealing with people, enquiries and problems.
  • Evidence of working at a tactical or operational level to deliver a technical solution and experience of working in a team.
  • Experience of Microsoft Server Administration and using Active Directory with associated technologies and tools.
  • Support and management of desktop systems operating in a client server environment ideally by using an MDM or with PowerShell or equivalent scripting languages.
  • Experience of using and developing in Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Experience with virtualised systems and network administration.
  • Good, up to date, working knowledge of current computer hardware including mobile devices.
  • Proactive and enthusiastic approach to customer engagement and teamwork.
  • Ability to develop and maintain their own knowledge in their field.
  • Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • A good working knowledge of a second operating system (e.g. Mac OS X or Linux).
  • The role holder should be sufficiently physically fit to be able to move and carry IT equipment.
  • The role holder should be able to empathise with users and handle potentially difficult or stressful situations diplomatically and efficiently.
