We are inviting applications for the post of Museum Assistant. This three-year position is available at the University of Cambridge Museum of Zoology and is based on-site. The Museum of Zoology is part of the Department of Zoology and is home to a collection designated as being of national and international importance. The Museum is open to the public Tuesday to Sunday, welcoming around 150,000 visitors a year.

You will support two of the University Museum of Zoology's key functions: Assisting with the care of our collections, and ensuring our visitors gain the best possible experience of their visit to the museum.

On Sundays you will be working with the Visitor Services and Operations Team, providing Front-of-House support and working with the Visitor Engagement Volunteers. For the rest of the time, you will be working as part of the Collections Team on a range of collections care and management tasks. This will include assisting research visits and undertaking re-storage and documentation projects. You should have practical experience of collections management work and collection care, experience of supervising volunteers and must be committed to providing excellent customer-service, with a proven ability to enthuse, motivate and inform people of all ages and backgrounds, including other staff, volunteers, visitors and external stakeholders.

The working pattern is 34.7 hours per week, to include 11.30am to 5pm on Sundays, and four full weekdays (95% full-time equivalent).

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
