Post-Doctoral Research Assistant

About the Role 
This position is within the laboratory of Professor Paul Evans. The post-holder will examine the mechanisms of atherosclerosis, a major cause of heart attack and stroke, with a particular focus on endothelial cells. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of the transcription factor TWIST1 in regulating endothelial plasticity and activation in atherosclerosis. The post-holder will participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and departmental research meetings, and will also present data at high profile international and national meetings.

About You
The successful candidate will have significant experience in cell biology and/or advanced molecular biology techniques and ideally will have experience in cardiovascular research. Candidates should have a PhD in cell or molecular biology or a related biological sciences discipline, with a productive track record, and have experience covering the full range of duties required for the post.

The William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI) leads major international programmes investigating the genetic and pathogenic mechanisms of cardiovascular, inflammatory and endocrine diseases. Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant with experience in cell biology. The post-holder will research the changes in endothelial cell biology that accompany atherosclerosis, with an emphasis on mechanisms of cell plasticity. This is part of a British Heart Foundation Programme Grant awarded to Professor Paul Evans.

The post is based at the historic Charterhouse Square Campus in London. It is a full time, fixed-term appointment for 12 months and is available from the 1st of September 2024. Starting salary will be £36,572 – £44,722 per annum (inclusive of London allowance) depending on the candidate experience.
