Organ-chip Research Technician

About the Role

We are looking for a hard-working research technician with excellent organizational skills and practical expertise in cell culture and related laboratory techniques to help run our state-of-the-art organ-chip facility.

The post is available for up to 2.5 years with the option to apply for a PhD studentship at the new EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in next generation organ-on-a-chip technology.

About You

The successful candidate will work closely with researchers and other technicians supporting experiments, training users and maintaining our facilities which include commercial platforms from Emulate, Mimetas and CN-Bio as well as in-house systems.

The successful candidate will be part of a large, friendly, organ-chip research team of academics, post docs and PhD students led by Profs Martin Knight and Hazel Screen. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the most successful multidisciplinary centres in this rapidly expanding area of organ-on-a-chip technology. Much of our research is linked to industry, providing rewarding opportunities to support the translation of this technology.

About the Project

The post is part of the Musculoskeletal Theme of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre in Precision Healthcare.

Queen Mary is one of the leading institutions for organ-chip research and development, hosting the Centre for Predictive in vitro Models (www.cpm.qmul.ac.uk) and the new EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Next Generation Organ-on-a-chip Technology. In the last UK Research Excellence Framework (REF21) Queen Mary and was ranked joint 7th in the UK for the quality of research.

The post is based in the Centre for Bioengineering in the School of Engineering and Materials Science on the Mile End Campus in London, and linked to the Centre for Predictive in vitro Models. It is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 2.5 years, with an expected start date of 01/11/2024. The starting salary will be Grade 4Tech, in the range of £38,165 - £44,722 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
