Research Assistant (Fixed Term)

A 1-year Research Assistant position is available to join a collaborative project led by Dr Kate Baker at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit and Dr Andras Lakatos at the John van Geest Centre for Brain Repair, Department of Clinical Neurosciences, both at the University of Cambridge.

The project focuses on a rare human genetic neurodevelopmental condition caused by missense variants in Synaptotagmin 1. The project will investigate the impact of these variants on cortical development in state-of-the-art human in vitro systems. Experimental work will involve maintenance of 3D human iPSC-derived cerebral organoids, biochemical and immunohistological analyses and confocal microscopy imaging. Close liaison with international collaborating laboratories will be essential. Depending on the post-holders background and interests, there may also be opportunity to contribute to parallel human studies.

Research at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit focuses on understanding of human cognition and its disorders. The John van Geest Centre for Brain Repair is a multidisciplinary centre dedicated to basic and translational neurobiology research in addition to clinical studies. Both laboratories have a strong track record of supporting career development for scientists and supporting staff.
