About the Role

Applicants are invited to apply for a 16-month full-time BHF funded post-doctoral position to join Professor Federica Marelli-Berg’s team investigating the role of T cells in cardiac autoimmunity. The position is at the Centre for Biochemical Pharmacology which brings together a group of leading clinical and non-clinical scientists researching the clinical, genetic, cellular and molecular basis of cardiovascular diseases. The Centre is based within Charterhouse Square Campus in the heart of City of London and within the world-renowned William Harvey Research Institute at Barts and The London Medical School, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).

The appointed person will undertake research investigations under the supervision of Professor Marelli-Berg and provide research as well as administrative support in order to realise the objectives and development of the research programme. The particular emphasis of the project will be to examine the phenotypic characteristic of a cardiotropic subset of memory T cells and their role in the development of chronic cardiac inflammation.

About You

Applicants should hold a PhD degree or equivalent experience in related science and have a strong background in experimental models of myocarditis. Animal ex vivo and in vivo cardiovascular physiology techniques (such as echocardiography) and experience in flow cytometry, imaging and cell culture techniques are essential, as is the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to demonstrate effective and efficient multi-tasking and maintain accurate and up to date records. In addition, the applicants should have high level of proficiency with computer software related to laboratory research, data presentation and statistical evaluation, as well as the ability to organise a varied workload between research, supervision and administration. Ability to communicate well, understand the research process and work within a team are also essential. The experimental work also involves genomic analysis, therefore specific expertise in the transcriptomic data analysis would be desirable.
