ABOUT THE ROLE

We announce a new 4-year fixed term lecturer position (Fellowship Cover) in Aquaculture and Fisheries, based at the Department of Biosciences at Swansea University. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a vibrant and growing Department and a highly successful team of research and teaching facing academics and take full advantage of our excellent research facilities, including the UK leading Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Research (CSAR) and our new 18m catamaran research and teaching vessel.

Our department is immersed in the beautiful Singleton Park, facing the beach, and is located close to many stunning natural areas, including the Gower Peninsula, the Brecon Beacons National Park, and Pembrokeshire, which provide great opportunities for research and teaching. We have excellent modern facilities, with 100% of our Research Environment judged as world or internationally leading by the latest REF evaluation. Our Department delivers excellent research (94% of our Research Outputs have been judged as world or internationally leading by the latest REF evaluation) across our 4 Research Themes in Marine and Freshwater Systems, Behavioural Ecology and Evolution, Biodiversity and Ecosystems, and Natural Products and Environmental Resources.

In this post you will be responsible for driving research in Aquaculture and Fisheries, engaging with charities, industrial and government sponsors to secure grants, and deliver teaching at Undergraduate and Post-graduate level, with an emphasis on giving students outstanding hands-on experience on the Aquatic biosciences.

The post requires a PhD on an aquatic-related topic, including (but not restricted to) aquaculture, fish ecology, fisheries, marine or freshwater biology, or aquatic conservation, and a good publication record on aquaculture, fish and fisheries, commensurate with career stage, and experience of high-quality delivery of teaching and student learning and a commitment to enhancing the overall student experience. The role is available from 1st September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
