We wish to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the research team for a project entitled: ‘Ethical Digital Public Histories: Prisoners and the legacy of enslavement 1817-1970’ in collaboration with the University of Georgia.
The project is an ambitious and inclusive public history project about the lives of formerly enslaved people and their descendants. Using archival and data methods it will examine data, produced by the criminal justice system to show the disproportionally and disastrous impact on racially-minoritised men and women, and offer insights into their lives using innovative digital technologies.
You should have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in history, criminology or cognitive discipline and have experience of using relevant research methods and methodologies that could be applied to analysing data from historic prison registers. This fixed term post is available immediately until 3 April 2026, working on a 0.75 FTE basis.
Interviews will be held on 6 August 2024.
Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
