The role will involve research in human computer interaction and data visualisation, to improve a smartphone application and visual interfaces based on insights gained through user trials and engagement tracking. You will work with Dr. Mengdie Zhuang on the Digital Health Hub for Antimicrobial Resistance, funded by the EPSRC. The hub will offer opportunities for close collaboration with partners, such as University College London, Bangor University and industrial partners.
The smartphone application, developed by project partners, will be deployed to collect data, including image and survey, in real-world contexts. To present collected data, the post holder will design novel visual interfaces for understanding, exploring, and explaining emerging health trends. We envisage use of various methods to evaluate the designs and measure user behaviour, such as eye tracking, think-alouds and diary studies, alongside advanced analytical methods to understand these behaviours. There are a number of application areas in the hub where these methods will be applied, so it is essential that the candidate is able to adapt methods accordingly and work effectively with colleagues from a wide variety of backgrounds.
The successful applicant will have a PhD (or PhD nearing completion) in Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Data Visualisation, or a related area. They will have deep knowledge of UX design and interactive data visualisation design. Experience in quantitative evaluation of user engagement is also essential along with a track record of journal publications and conference proceedings.
If you feel like you would be a good fit for the role, we would love to hear from you!
