Can you help make every moment count for deaf children and their families – now and in the future?

We are the National Deaf Children’s Society, the leading charity for deaf children. Our vision is a world without barriers for every deaf child – no matter what their level or type of deafness or how they communicate. We give expert support on childhood deafness, raise awareness and campaign for deaf children’s rights, so they have the same opportunities as everyone else.

Our Trustee Board is made up of 12 people who provide guidance and leadership to the charity. The trustees work together to determine our strategy and direction so that we can support current and future members and help bring about a world without barriers for every deaf child.

We’re currently looking for a new trustee to join our Trustee Board at an exciting time for the organisation. In April 2023, we launched our new five-year strategy. It’s ambitious and bold, but we need it to be. This is what we need to do to change lives.

We’re looking for someone who shares our ambition to achieve our goal of reaching 100% of deaf children and their families who need us. Our trustees are willing to ask challenging questions about our work and help make decisions about the future of the charity.

We’re particularly interested in receiving applications from parents of deaf children who have:

- senior-level strategic experience in public policy and influencing or large-scale service development; or
- a strategic background in digital or agile ways of working and can help support our ambition to harness the power of digital to meet the needs of our customers.

We recognise the importance of diverse thinking and welcome applications from people with the skills and mindset we need from all sections of the community and across the UK. We’re especially interested in encouraging applications to help strengthen our Board and ensure diverse voices are reflected in decision-making and governance within the charity.

We’re keen to attract interest from different ethnic groups, young people (18 to 30 years old), deaf and disabled people and members from outside London and south-east England. If you identify with one of these areas and have the skills and strategic mindset we're looking for, we’d love for you to get in touch.

We will meet potential trustees in early to mid-July and we will invite successful applicants to observe the Trustee Board meeting on 18th July or 2nd November 2024. Interviews are expected to be held on 12th July 2024.
