The Role

We are seeking an outstanding individual who is passionate about their discipline, to make an academic contribution in the subject area of Cyber Security. We are an applied department of computing and are looking for a highly technically competent individual to enhance our cyber security programme.

You will join a large, growing and vibrant Computing Department that is enthusiastically engaged in both teaching and research. Having achieved the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) full certification for excellence in Cyber Security for our Masters in Cyber Security, your contribution to the more technical areas of teaching will be highly valued.

The range of courses and subjects taught will enable myriad opportunities to grow and develop your portfolio of knowledge in the discipline. You will have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues whose expert knowledge will have different skills to yourself, providing ongoing support for both yourself and others.

The Subject Group – Cyber Security and Computer Networks

The Cyber Security and Computer Networks Subject Group currently consist of 20 academics, who are active in both teaching and research. Courses which are delivered by the group include:

  • BSc (Hons) Cyber Security
  • BSc (Hons) Cyber Security with Forensics
  • MSc Advanced Computer Networks
  • MSc Cyber Security

The two undergraduate degrees in the portfolio, have a common first year, and specialisms are introduced from the second year onwards. In the Cyber Security degree, strong working knowledge is required in the areas of Ethical Hacking, Network Intrusion Detection systems, and Computer Networks Security. In the final year the specialist modules encompass Advanced Penetration Testing and Information Security Management, Blockchain and IoT, and Virtualisation technology solutions –such as Software Defined Networks.

Your contribution to any of these areas will be highly valued. It is also expected that the successful applicant will be able to contribute to the Masters in Cyber Security. Areas such as Incident Handling and Hacking Techniques, Application Security, Web Security, and Information Security Management particularly in relation to the ISO 27001 standard are valuable to the group. Contributions of the candidates knowledge to these areas will be important.
