ABOUT XJTLU

In 2006 Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) was created by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University – a top ten university in China. Offering a unique international education experience, XJTLU brings together excellent research practice and expertise from both institutions and gives students the skills and knowledge they need to secure careers in a global marketplace. XJTLU now has around 25,000 enrolled students in both Suzhou and Liverpool in the UK, with plans to grow to about 28,000 students by 2025. There are currently about 2,200 staff, among which about 1,000 academic staff, with an almost even split between citizens of the People’s Republic of China and international passport holders. ABOUT ENTREPRENEUR COLLEGE (TAICANG)

In 2019, the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang) was launched, as a pioneers of, and an educational model for, the future university and campus in developing talents and leaders to meet local, national, and global challenges arising from the 4th Industrial Revolution. Developed in collaboration with the Taicang Municipal Government and industry partners, the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang) moved to the university’s newly opened award winning Taicang campus, within Greater Suzhou, in September 2022. ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF INTERNET OF THINGS

The School of Internet of Things is one of the 7 industry-themed Schools in the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang). Each School consists of an Education, Research and Development Institute (“ERDI”) for teaching and university-business research collaboration, a professional services centre supporting daily activities of students, staff, and business partners, and a School Affiliated Company jointly established by XJTLU and the School’s industry partner for practical on-the-job learning and teaching.

POSITION OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Summary:

As the Associate Professor of Practice in IoT, you’ll lead and run syntegrative projects, student-focused events, and project-based industry-focused research. You’ll secure funding, collaborate with industry, and guide students through real-world IoT projects to ensure our curriculum stays at the forefront of industry trends. The school actively encourages collaboration through these projects, fostering an environment of interdisciplinary learning and industry partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach IoT-related courses incorporating project-based learning to prepare students for industry challenges, focusing on syntegrative projects and student-focused events.
  • Secure funding for IoT research projects that address real-world challenges and contribute to industry solutions, strongly emphasizing collaborative projects.
  • Conduct research in IoT, collaborating with industry partners to develop new solutions and lead project initiatives that encourage collaboration and student engagement.
  • Integrate industry-aligned and co-developed case studies into teaching materials to provide students with practical IoT experience and encourage collaboration.
  • Establish and maintain industry partnerships for research collaborations, internships, and student employment opportunities, focusing on collaborative projects.
  • Participate in industry conferences, workshops, and seminars to stay current on IoT developments and identify collaboration opportunities.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and technical reports, highlighting collaborative efforts.
  • Contribute to developing and enhancing IoT curriculum, ensuring it remains at the forefront of industry trends and encourages collaboration.
  • Advise students on academic matters, career development, and research opportunities, focusing on collaboration within the school and with industry partners.
  • Supervise master’s and doctoral students, guiding them through research projects and academic writing, strongly emphasizing collaborative efforts.
  • Proactively seek and secure external research funding from government agencies, industry partners, and other sources, focusing on collaborative projects.
  • Manage research budgets and ensure compliance with funding requirements, focusing on collaborative projects.
  • Lead and run syntegrative projects, student-focused events, project-based industry-focused research, and Professional development projects.
  • Support and collaborate with platforms such as Innovation Factory, X3 Co-Venture, and Non-degree executive education established at the college level, actively participating in and contributing to the nature of the practice track. 

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Electronics, Networking and Communications, Systems Engineering or a closely aligned discipline to the Internet of Things; or be able to demonstrate an equivalent professional practice and engagement.
  • Ideally, minimum of five years of practical IoT experience.
  • Experience teaching IoT subjects at the university level.
  • A record of successful research funding acquisition and industry connections, focusing on collaborative projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and industry partners in collaborative projects.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development in IoT and fostering collaborative opportunities within the school and with industry partners.
  • Ability to work, teach and research in English.  

CITIZENSHIP AND VISA REGULATIONS

Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment with regard to obtaining work permits and visas. Please be advised candidates over 65 may be not eligible for a work visa in the P.R. China.
