The James Watt School of Engineering (JWSE) at the University of Glasgow is a growing international centre of excellence for engineering research and teaching. The School leads research in Autonomous Systems & Connectivity (including Aerospace); Biomedical Engineering; Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering; Infrastructure and Environment; and Systems, Power and Energy. We have in the region of 170 academics and 190 researchers supported by approximately 70 technicians and 40 professional services staff. Currently, we have ~500 research students working towards doctorates.

Our School hosts fundamental research that is developed with the ambition to lead to industrial and academic impact. We expect the successful academic to complement and synergise with existing activities and to develop a network of collaborations locally (across the James Watt School of Engineering and the University) as well as to liaise with industry to translate their research to the highest impact.

We are seeking to fill academic leadership positions within the Division of Biomedical Engineering and Division of Infrastructure & Environment in Engineering Biology.  Multiple appointments may be available subject to candidate fit.

The Division of Biomedical Engineering is particularly interested in those who develop innovative technologies with implications in artificial cells, genome editing, and system approaches to such challenges.  The post holder will join a vibrant environment with world leading groups in Biomaterials, Cell and Tissue Engineering, Rehabilitation Engineering and Advanced Diagnostics.

The Division of Infrastructure & Environment is looking for excellent candidates specialising in Engineering Biology for Environmental Biotechnology which would propel our cutting-edge work at the interface of microbial biotechnology and environmental solutions.

As a member of the School, you should be able to teach modules across our Engineering programmes, equipping students with vital engineering biology skills, as well as supporting the broader research activity and postgraduate student supervision. The successful candidate will be expected to grow an internationally leading research group that is self-sustaining.

We particularly welcome applications from women and other under-represented groups in engineering to deliver a balanced workforce.
