Job Summary

Imperial College School of Medicine is one of the largest medical schools in the country, training more than 2,000 students in Medicine and Biomedical Science. The Faculty of Medicine has an international reputation for excellence and is routinely ranked among the world's top five in the sector. The School harnesses that excellence to provide a unique, research-led student experience in Medicine and Health Sciences.

The Head the School Secretariat provides the specialist expertise required to support the School’s initiatives to enhance the quality of its undergraduate programmes and optimise the student experience. They lead a diverse team of administrative staff across a broad range of functional areas, including Admissions and Welfare, Quality Assurance, Information Governance, Equality Diversity and Inclusivity, and Communications.

Duties and responsibilities

The School Secretariat comprises a broad range of functional areas designed to improve the student experience, including Admissions and Welfare, Quality Assurance, Information Governance, Equality Diversity and Inclusivity, and Communications.  As Head of the School Secretariat you will provide leadership to and management of the Secretariat team, ensuing the successful delivery of its strategic and operational objectives across a range of business-as-usual and projects to improve student satisfaction.

In addition, as Head of School Secretariat, you will be responsible for ensuring that the requirements of our regulator, the General Medical Council (GMC), are met for the undergraduate medical programme (MBBS).

The Head of School Secretariat is a senior position within the Faculty of Medicine Education Office. In this role you will sit on the School and Faculty Education Boards, and a represent the School across a range of College level activities. You will also represent the School and wider Faculty in your work with a range of key NHS partners, as well as the GMC.

Essential requirements

To be successful in this role you will need to have substantial relevant experience in a Medical School or similar setting, with an expertise in quality assurance in the Higher Education Sector.

You will have strong interpersonal skills, able to develop productive working relationships with colleagues internal and external to the organisation and be confident in representing the interests of the School.

As an experienced manager you will be well equipped to lead and develop a diverse team, working across a wide range of operational areas.

The Head of School Secretariat supports the changing priorities and activities of the School, hence an agile and flexible approach to work is crucial. As the post covers a wide, high-level remit, and excellent organisational and management skills are required to be effective in this position.

Further Information

This is a full time and fixed term role for one year based at Charing Cross Campus.

This can be offered aa secondment for internal candidates.
