We are looking to recruit a Disability Adviser who will join a well-established, friendly and experienced specialist team.

The successful candidate will provide a point of contact, information and support for a range of disabled students, including those with mental health difficulties, Autism Spectrum Conditions, sensory and mobility impairments/loss and long-term medical conditions. A sister team of Tutors within Disability Support Services supports students who have Specific Learning Differences. We also have an in-house Support Worker Service. 

The post holder will assess, make and communicate recommendations for reasonable adjustments to appropriate areas of the University to ensure students are supported throughout their studies. They will also help students apply for funding via Disabled Students' Allowances, make referrals to other teams within the University and keep accurate records of their interventions.

The successful candidate should have knowledge and understanding of the nature and challenges involved in life at University and the ways in which disability can impact on study. 

They should also be agile and effective communicators, with a proven and thorough understanding of disability legislation and the duties of the University and be able to analyse and problem solve complex situations under pressure. The successful candidate will also have well developed negotiating and influencing skills, be able to work with highly sensitive information appropriately, and be able to work with minimal supervision, prioritising and planning a busy workload. 

This is a fixed-term, part-time position. Hours of work are 21.75 per week, normally 8.45 am to 5.00 pm (with a one hour lunch break). We can be flexible on both hours and which days are worked. This post will be offered until 1st January 2025.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates will be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

Please note that although we would ideally like to recruit someone who has broad experience working with adults with a range of disabilities and knowledge of higher education, we will also recruit the right candidate if they have strong transferrable skills and enough applicable experience.
