The Department of Media and Communications is a world-leading centre for education and research in communication and media studies at the heart of LSE’s academic community in central London. We are ranked #1 in the UK and #2 globally in our field (2024 QS World University Rankings).
The Department is seeking to appoint an experienced and proactive Department Manager to provide operational, financial and strategic leadership. The Department Manager is a key member of the Department Leadership Team, working closely with and reporting directly to the Head of Department.
The post holder will play a critical role in shaping the development and strategic direction of the Department. They will have operational and administrative responsibility for research, education, financial and human resources and space planning.
Candidates should have substantial management experience in higher education, and line-managing experience in an academic setting. They should demonstrate strong leadership skills, strategic thinking with the ability to navigate complex priorities, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective negotiation and influence. Experience in managing large, complex budgets is also required.
