In 2006 Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) was created by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University – a top ten university in China. Offering a unique international education experience, XJTLU brings together excellent research practice and expertise from both institutions and gives students the skills and knowledge they need to secure careers in a global marketplace. XJTLU now has over 25,000 enrolled students in both Suzhou and Liverpool in the UK, with plans to grow to about 28,000 students by 2025. ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF FILM AND TELEVISION ARTS

The School of Film and Television Arts was built on the departmental strengths in communication and culture. With the addition of training in making creative content and arts, the school has been constantly developing a mix of practice, research, creativity and industry engagement with the cultural and creative industry sectors in China and internationally. The school currently offers programmes in Digital Media Arts, TV Production and Filmmaking at UG level, and a new two-year master’s degree in Cultural and Creative Industries, building on the success of its initial degree programme, as well as expanding its research portfolio.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Programme of Digital Media Arts seeks to fill multiple faculty positions with an emphasis in one or more of the following:

  • AR/VR/XR/Game Focus. Proficient in utilizing Unreal/Unity Engines.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) focus. Proficient in digital humans, metaverse, and related areas.
  • 2D & 3D Animation, Visual Effects. Proficient in using Photoshop/Illustrator/After Effects/Premiere/Maya/Blender/ZBrush/Motion Capture.
  • Interactive Design. Proficient in using Processing/p5.js/three.js/node.js/openFrameworks/Touch Designer/Arduino/Raspberry Pi.

We welcome applicants from a broad range of creative experiences, from emerging to established industry professionals and teachers. A successful candidate will demonstrate an emphasis in cross disciplinary skills within the general field of digital media and is expected to teach undergraduate Level. Participation in research or creative work and service such as curriculum development, committee work and program administration can be expected.

We also expect a pedagogical and personal commitment to creating a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment and a critical understanding of the challenges in diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of digital media arts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Directing student learning in assigned courses.
  • Establishing and assessing student learning outcomes.
  • Advising of students.
  • Meeting accreditation requirements.
  • Maintaining current knowledge and skills in areas of assignment.
  • Engaging in professional development and certification activities.
  • Building collaborative relationships within the XJTLU community
  • Fostering a positive, caring learning environment in which diversity and pluralism are valued.
  • Engage in departmental administrative duties or academic service to the University.
  • Participate in research or creative work in topics related to Digital Media Arts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD or MFA with an emphasis in an area related to your field or Equivalent in Arts/Design or Computer Science, with a focus on Digital Media, Interactive Arts, Digital Communications, Animation, Immersive Media or related.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Awareness of current industry trends in the digital media arts.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach in traditional, hybrid and fully online environments. Demonstrated experience working collegially with diverse colleagues in a collaborative and inclusive manner.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES

  • A good track record of engagement with business and industry.
  • Ideally, more than 2 years of teaching experience at the university level or several years working experience in industry.
  • Exhibition/show planning and curation.
  • Appropriate research experience, including working with industry, for the corresponding academic position level.
  • Experience in intensive teaching and problem-based learning, and a willingness to be innovative in teaching practices.
  • An institutional builder, able to work with wider disciplines across the Taicang campus.
  • For Non-Chinese applicants, two years, full time, same subject teaching in a college/university is required by the Chinese work permit policy.

CITIZENSHIP AND VISA REGULATIONS

Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment with regard to obtaining work permits and visas. Please be advised candidates over 65 may be not eligible for a work visa in the P.R. China.
