Assessment criteria
Special emphasis will be paid to scientific proficiency demonstrated through independent research within organization. International publications within the subject area within the past three years are considered a merit when evaluating scientific proficiency and research activity.
Strong emphasis will be paid to teaching proficiency demonstrated through independent teaching on first and second cycle education as well as thesis supervision, course responsibility and pedagogical development within organization.
Strong emphasis will also be paid to a well-developed plan for research during the proposed course of employment.
Strong emphasis will be paid to successfully having planned and applied for and received research funds for projects from external research funding bodies.
Strong emphasis will be paid to a documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues and fellow researchers.
Emphasis will also be paid to administrative proficiency and the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to inform about the work of research and development.
It is a merit to have completed at least 7.5 higher education credits of higher education in teaching theory or have otherwise acquired the equivalent knowledge.
Additional information
An applicant who does not have at least 7.5 higher education credits of higher education in teaching theory and has not been assessed as otherwise having the corresponding knowledge must undergo such courses during the first two years of employment. Understanding Swedish is not a requirement at the time of employment. The applicant should, however, be prepared within a couple of years, to carry out teaching and administration tasks that require knowledge and usage of the Swedish language.
Information about promotion to Senior Lecturer
The Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100) states that an employment as Associate Senior Lecturer is limited to four years. The purpose of the employment is to provide the lecturer with opportunity to further develop his/her role as an independent researcher and gain important merits required for other teaching positions with more advanced qualification requirements.
If an Associate Senior Lecturer at Stockholm University qualifies for a promotion and applies, he/she should be offered a permanent position as a Senior Lecturer in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the Rules of Employment for the Recruitment and Employment of Teachers (AOSU). The candidate must also be assessed according to the Assessment criteria below:
Assessment criteria for promotion from Associate Senior Lecturer to Senior Lecturer
Qualified to be promoted to Senior Lecturer is a person who has been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding scientific competence and has demonstrated scientific proficiency by planning and executing research during the course of employment representing at least half of the requirements of an associate professorship (excluding the thesis work), in terms of quantity, quality and independence, regardless of how far along the research was at the time of employment.
Teaching proficiency should be demonstrated through teaching in both first and second cycle education. Teaching should be independently planned and carried out and the quality and quantity should represent the requirements of an employment as Senior Lecturer. Teaching proficiency should be documented in a manner which makes it possible to assess its quality.
The applicant must have the ability to cooperate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise needed to perform the duties well.
The applicant should have a documented ability to initiate and conduct independent research of high scientific quality.
The applicant should have completed at least 7.5 higher education credits of higher education in teaching theory or have otherwise acquired the equivalent knowledge.
