Twelve Lectureships in School of Engineering, Physical and Mathematical Sciences at Royal Holloway, University of London

The School of Engineering, Physical and Mathematical Sciences (EPMS) at Royal Holloway, University of London comprises the Departments of Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Information Security, Mathematics and Physics. We are pleased to announce that the School is embarking on an ambitious period of expansion in data science, artificial intelligence, computing, information security, digital engineering and physical science and, as part of this expansion, applications are invited for ten Lectureships across our departments. The School of EPMS plays an active part in inter-disciplinary activities and benefits from a number of University-led initiatives including the ‘Transformative Digital Technologies, Security and Society’, ‘Advanced Quantum Science and Technologies’ and ‘Living Sustainably’ research catalysts and the School will be leading the establishment of a new Centre of Applied AI. Where appropriate, post holders will have the opportunity to play a full role in the growth of Applied AI within the School, and across the University more generally.

Applicants for the research and teaching posts should either have, or have the potential for producing, high quality publications and attracting significant research funding. Post holders will be expected to contribute strongly to the development of research impact, and the successful applicant will have, or have the potential to have, a strong track record in this area.

Applicants for both the research and teaching and teaching focused positions will have a track record demonstrated excellence, or will show the potential for excellence, in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and the supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Post holders of the teaching focused positions will additionally be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of excellent and innovative learning activities that add value to the student experience.

We are interested in recruiting in the following areas:

  • Computer science, data science and artificial intelligence (3 teaching and research posts)
  • Engineering management (2 teaching and research posts & 2 teaching focused posts)
  • Information security & cyber-security (3 posts)
  • Astronomy/Astrophysics (2 posts)

The successful applicants will have a PhD in a relevant area and have significant research and/or teaching experience dependent on the nature of the post. Post holders for research positions will be expected to contribute strongly to the development of research impact, and successful applicants will have a track record demonstrating potential in this area. Post holders will be expected to teach and supervise at undergraduate and postgraduate level with responsibility for the design, management and delivery of their teaching. They will also participate in departmental administration as requested by the relevant Head of Department.
