Head of Department Roles

Aston University School of Computer Science and Digital Technologies

The school sits in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences and is made up of four departments who are each looking to appoint a Professor/ Reader with appointed office role as Head of Department: Applied Maths and Data Science, Applied Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Software Engineering and Cybersecurity, and Electronics and Computer Engineering. The four departments are expected to develop high-quality, research-inspired, teaching which supports the portfolio of courses delivered by the school, and the Heads of Department will be part of the school’s leadership team, helping to define and deliver the school’s strategy.

The school is experiencing a period of growth in terms of research activity and student recruitment in the digital sciences: computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, as well as in electrical and electronic engineering with a wealth of opportunities to lead and participate in world leading interdisciplinary research with different areas of the University.

The Head of Department will be responsible for growing the research and teaching opportunities, working closely with the other departments within the school and across schools. The Head of Department will also be jointly responsible, as part of the school’s leadership team, for the delivery of teaching on the school’s portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The Head of Department will work closely with the school’s Leadership Team to develop cross-department research and teaching. They will already have a well-developed international track record in research as well as a history of pedagogical innovation. A successful applicant will be able to demonstrate strong leadership.
