Liverpool Hope University is a vibrant community of scholars, students and support staff. We are proud of our past, confident in our present and ambitious for our future. In 2024, we celebrated 180 years since the establishment of our founding colleges, which marked the beginning of our rich tradition of providing opportunities for a well-rounded education. Liverpool Hope University is distinctive. It is unlike any other university in the United Kingdom. Its work is shaped by Christian principles although it embraces those of all faiths and none. It values the individual, encouraging students to achieve the highest academic standards while becoming responsible citizens.
All of our academic staff engage in research and scholarship activities and our commitment to a research-informed agenda. This is evident from our Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 results and the fact that we submitted over 96% of REF-eligible staff. Over 61% of the submitted research outputs were judged in the category of “Internationally Excellent (3*)” or “World Leading (4*)”. The University has particular research strengths in areas of social sciences, humanities, creative and performing arts, education, health and sport sciences, psychology, geography and environment sciences, mathematics, computer science and engineering. This developing research expertise builds upon and complements our already well-established reputation for excellence in teaching and learning. We are a research-informed, teaching led University of distinction and we have already made excellent progress in making this ambition a reality. Our policy is to combine these elements of our work in keeping with the University’s stated academic profile as a research-informed teaching University of distinction. According to the Complete University Guide 2023, the University is amongst the Top 3 in the North West and in the Top third of universities in the UK for Research Intensity (RI). RI is based on the proportion of staff submitted to REF out of the total eligible.
Our equal commitment to developing a learning community, places students at the heart of the system and is evidenced by our high investment in quality facilities. We have pursued a programme of investment to ensure our students and staff have excellent learning environments and inspiring campuses. The newest addition to this programme is our Arts Centre, and a new I3 Building and plans are underway to construct a state-of-the-art Motion Picture Factory. These developments will transform learning at our Hope Park and Creative Campus sites.
Staff benefits include a generous annual leave allowance, plus Hope Liturgical Days and Bank Holidays, along with competitive rates of pay defined using the HERA job evaluation scheme, access to a pension scheme with employer contributions, discounted gym membership at our Taggart Avenue sport complex plus health and well-being initiatives.
If the level of your personal ambition matches that of our University and you are an excellent team player, active researcher and committed teacher or outstanding support professional, we would be delighted to hear from you.
"We are building on our 180-year history of innovation, of championing social justice and serving the region, to shape the next chapter in our development. As we approach our 20th year as an independent University this is also an opportunity to celebrate our fantastic community of staff and students, our alumni, the excellent quality of the rounded education we provide, the impact our research and scholarship has within the academy and its contribution to economic growth and social change.
Our ambitions for the next five years include growth and diversification of our student body and portfolio; building on areas of strength; ensuring that our excellent student experience is continually enhanced; further developing the rich relationships we have with international partner institutions; increasing our voice and footprint in the region; building our strong profile in research and knowledge exchange and ensuring we do all of these in a sustainable way. Our objectives and actions will be underpinned by our strong ethos and sense of community." –Andy Catterall, HR Director
Vice-Chancellor’s message
“We welcome talented people from across the world to join our vibrant community in the pursuit of academic and research excellence that will ensure the best possible outcomes for our students and address issues facing society. As a smaller university you will benefit from quickly becoming part of an academic community that values all of its people, staff, students and visitors and places great emphasis on supporting and developing them as individuals”.
