De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) is a dynamic and inclusive 21st-century university with a history of teaching, training and developing talent that can be traced back 150 years. Today, DMU continues to build a reputation founded on a clear focus on graduate careers. Our award-winning careers support and employability service, DMU Works, is here to open doors for our students and to help them find their dream career.
Last year we received a prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Award for Outstanding Support for Students in recognition of an initiative delivered by our careers service to help students from ethnic minority groups gain job confidence. Additionally, we were ranked among the best universities in the UK for supporting students to improve their career prospects in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards. In 2021, DMU Works was also named Best University Careers/Employability Service at the NUE Awards, which celebrates the best work being done in UK universities.
We offer every student access to a welcoming scholarly environment where they can expand their knowledge, enjoy exciting life experiences and increase their appeal to employers. Our new strategy commits us to discovering gateways of opportunity that empower students, staff and our community to create a fairer society.
DMU is in the top 10% of institutions overall recognised by the Times Higher Education’s 2020 Impact Ranking league table for our work on the United Nations’ Strategic Development Goals. We halved our energy-related carbon emissions one year ahead of target, an achievement announced at the 2020 Sustainable Development Goals Conference, and are in the top 50 universities in the world for sustainability in the Times Higher Education rankings.
DMU is undertaking a journey to transform itself into a leading modern university. Driven by our new strategy which sees us as ‘The Empowering University’, we have a mission to create opportunities for our students, staff and partners to fulfil their potential and help create a fairer society.
Located at the heart of one of the country's most diverse cities, that culture is represented on our campus. We are the only university in the UK to be named a United Nations Academic Impact Hub for a Sustainable Development Goal. Our creative and entrepreneurial spirit is reflected in the fact that we are ranked ninth in the UK for student start-up companies by the Higher Education Statistics Agency.
Over the last decade our campus has been developed into one of the greenest, contiguous city campus spaces. Our academic transformation has begun with the delivery of Education 2030, a bold programme that introduces block-mode learning to deliver the education needed in 2030 to our students now. We have five new research themes and are transforming the way our professional services work.
We are looking for people who share our passion for educational transformation, cultural diversity and sustainability to join us.
