Academic Opportunities at Westminster Law School

As part of Westminster Law School’s ambitious plans to expand and reshape the boundaries of legal education, training and research, we are seeking to hire a number of outstanding new colleagues who share our commitment to the transformational potential of our endeavours.

A constituent School of the University of Westminster, Westminster Law School is a large, vibrant and diverse community of legal scholarship, practice and research located in central London, with a clear civic mission and singular commitment to excellence and innovation. We are home to around 2000 students, and have a proud tradition of providing a pathway to academic success and to the legal professions to students from all backgrounds. A 2021 Sutton Trust study ranked Westminster top of all UK Universities for social mobility in the field of law.

A full-service Law School, we provide academic and professional legal education across all levels, from foundation year to PhD, with a growing portfolio of interdisciplinary programmes. The School is expanding its own horizons to push the boundaries of cutting-edge legal education and research. Alongside a refreshed flagship LLB programme, which places immersive and clinical education at the heart of a research-led degree, the School has recently launched a series of new undergraduate degrees in interdisciplinary areas such as Law and International Relations and Law and Criminal Justice, as well as a unique new critical programme in Policing. The School’s growing specialist postgraduate portfolio reflects the diversity of expertise in the School, and includes LLMs in International Law, a wide range of International Commercial disciplines, Entertainment Law, and Law and Technology.

We are looking to appoint several new colleagues to contribute to and lead in a number of these areas. As part of our commitment to cutting-edge education and training and research, we are looking to appoint Senior Lecturer-level candidates with expertise in Legal Education and Clinical Legal Education respectively; a Professor and two Lecturers within the rapidly evolving fields of commercial and corporate law; and a Lecturer in Policing and Criminal Justice who shares our vision for an ethically informed, social engaged future for policing and the criminal justice system.

The School houses a diverse academic and professional community which seeks to push the boundaries of legal knowledge and practice, and is home to numerous flagship centres, many of which are internationally renowned for their collective endeavours and the work of their members. These include the Centre for Law, Society and Popular Culture; the Law and Theory Lab; International Law at Westminster; the Centre for Law, Gender, Race and Sexuality; the Centre on the Legal Profession; and the award-winning Westminster Legal Advice Clinic.

The School is proud of, and committed to, the diversity of its academic community, and candidates from all professional, personal, intellectual and cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply for all of these posts. We are happy to consider fractional appointments and job-share arrangements. Informal queries regarding any of the positions can be directed to Professor Luke Mason, Head of Westminster Law School (l.mason@westminster.ac.uk)
