About the Role

Queen Mary is a world class university ranked 7th in the UK in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021). Queen Mary has an excellent track record in areas of AI, Machine Learning and computer science covering both fundamentals and applications. In the last Research Excellence Framework (REF21), Queen Mary’s computer science was ranked 8th overall in the UK and 1st for research impact. 

We welcome applications for up to 30 talented new permanent academic staff at all levels from lecturer through to full professor in the research areas listed below.

As well as the research focused positions ('Teaching and Research') we are also recruiting for positions focused on education leadership ('Teaching and Scholarship' or ‘Teaching and Professional Practice’) at senior lecturer through to professorial level in any of the areas of AI, Machine Learning and Computing listed above and also in areas related to AI policy, law, ethics and marketing.

About the Role

Those appointed will be welcomed, supported, mentored and inspired within one of our five academic Schools (Biological and Behavioural Sciences; Electronic Engineering and Computer Science; Engineering and Materials Science; Mathematical Sciences; and Physical and Chemical Sciences), according to the best fit with their research and education.

At all levels of appointment there will be significant opportunities to collaborate and develop your career with colleagues across the Faculty of Science and Engineering and elsewhere at Queen Mary.

About You

Successful candidates will have a PhD and appropriate experience.

For research (Teaching and Research) roles, candidates should have an impressive research track record of research publications and grant awards, appropriate to academic level, and a vision and funding strategy to build a successful research group at Queen Mary.  All successful applicants will be expected to provide a positive contribution to student education as well as research.

Those applying for education/teaching focused (Teaching and Scholarship or Teaching and Professional Practice) roles are expected to have an excellent track record of leadership and delivery within education.

For applicants at Readership and Professorial level, candidates should be internationally leading in their field and be able to lead colleagues.

These posts will be primarily based at our Mile End Campus, but with the possibility of working at other campuses from time to time. They are full time permanent appointments (though part time roles and applications will be received positively). The posts can start from January 2025 onwards.  

Salaries:

Lecturers - £49,785-£58,595 per annum and up to £63,622 per annum for exceptional candidates
Senior Lecturers - £61,896-£69,114 per annum
Readers - up to £77,240 for exceptional candidates
Professorial salaries are competitive, starting at a minimum of £77,230.
