St Mary's University
As the University builds on its proud heritage, we are looking for exceptional people to help shape our future. We provide a high-quality professional environment, inspired by our distinctive ethos and Catholic mission and values. Our values of excellence, generosity of spirit, inclusiveness and respect inspire us to create an academic community in which everybody is welcomed and which puts the student at the centre of all our endeavors.
The University’s Vision 2030 articulates how St. Mary’s, as a Catholic university, wishes to ensure that: “each student, whatever their background, can achieve their potential” and that we “make sure that students themselves help shape life at St Mary’s…Ensuring [that] students are partners in all we do” and that: “Students will be encouraged to participate fully in University life.” This is a rich view of inclusion which has led to excellent student satisfaction and employment sustained over many years.
About the role
We are looking for an exceptional individual to step into the newly created role of Head of Inclusion. You will have a unique opportunity to lead change initiatives and shape the University’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion across a broad portfolio.
Reporting to the Executive Dean of Education and Outcomes, this newly created position will work with a dedicated team of diversity professionals to build momentum across a broad portfolio of impactful diversity and inclusion projects including Athena Swan, Race Equality Charter and our LGBTQ+ inclusion project.
You will engage and collaborate with a wide range of staff and student stakeholders to identify key areas of activity and build confidence and commitment for change. You will provide professional and academic leadership across the University at all levels to ensure a proactive approach to ED&I. Working across portfolios, you will ensure that links between the staff and student equality and diversity activity have a shared focus on outcomes and success.
About you
You’ll be an experienced diversity and inclusion professional with strong relationship management and strategic thinking skills who can contribute effectively to the University’s ED&I initiatives. You will have a proven track record of project management within this sphere and the ability to influence at the most senior levels. Having the credibility to represent the University externally, you will be able to problem solve and build a network of supporters internally and externally. You will have a strong commitment to the University’s mission and ethos.
