Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry

Jobs

Based in one of our five Institutes and spanning across all our research themes, this is an exciting time to join us. You will become an integral part of our Faculty being recognised for producing the highest impact research in medicine and dentistry.

The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI), led by Professor Nitzan Rosenfeld, undertakes world-leading creative and fundamental research into the biology of cancer and its environment, and translates findings into innovations that will improve cancer care and outcomes.

The BCI, along with the Centre for Cancer Screening, Prevention and Early Diagnosis at the Wolfson Institute of Population Health, is a key partner of the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) City of London (CoL) Centre, a world-class hub for cancer biotherapeutics connecting leading institutes across London. It is one of seven locations to receive CRUK Centre status, awarded to locations performing the highest quality cancer research, providing over £100million of infrastructure investment funding for technical staff, equipment, training and running costs.

As part of this campaign, we are looking to further strengthen our research offering in and would welcome interest from individuals who have expertise in the areas of: Lung or pancreatic cancer – advanced therapies, immuno-oncology or tumour microenvironment.

The Blizard Institute, led by Professor Mary Collins, undertakes world-class basic, clinical and translational research relevant to the needs of patients at the Royal London Hospital and the population of East London.

The Blizard Institute is the largest and most diverse Institute in the Faculty, covering research areas from cutaneous biology, genetics, and epigenetics to hepatology, international health, trauma, orthopaedics, and rehabilitation. The Institute addresses the health needs of the local population, while delivering new treatments on a global scale. It is also home to Centre of the Cell, the first science education centre in the world to be located within working biomedical research laboratories.

As part of this campaign, we are looking to further strengthen our research offering in and would welcome interest from individuals who have expertise in the areas of: Genomics – single cell approaches, epigenetics, infectious diseases or brain cancer.

The Institute of Dentistry (IOD), led by Professor Chris Tredwin, consistently ranks in the top 20 best places in the world to study dentistry, combining a strong tradition of clinical, epidemiological and public health research in dentistry with a solid basic science research base.

The IOD research strategy supports quality in science exemplified by our unique biomaterials’ innovations, producing translational impact from bench to clinic. Increasing investment in population/public health research has resulted in the Institute being recognised as a leader in influencing global oral health.

As part of this campaign, we are looking to further strengthen our research offering in and would welcome interest from individuals who have expertise in the areas of: Genetics, bioinformatics, inflammation or host–microbiome interactions.

The William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI), led by Professor Panos Deloukas, is a world-leading research Institute underpinned by two cross-cutting interdisciplinary themes: precision medicine and life-long health. In addition, WHRI is home to international excellence in critical care and perioperative medicine research.

The WHRI combine talents from different disciplines, such as genomics, cell biology, pharmacology, with translational bench-to-patient studies and large-scale clinical trials, all with the ambition of therapeutic innovation. The WHRI is one of the largest multidisciplinary pharmacological institutes in Europe with over 530 clinicians and scientists from 45 countries.

As part of this campaign, we are looking to further strengthen our research offering in and would welcome interest from individuals who have expertise in the areas of: Translational cardiovascular research, computational medicine, inflammation research; or advanced cell, gene or RNA therapies.

The Wolfson Institute of Population Health (WIPH), led by Professor Fiona Walter, improves population health; reduces health inequalities at local, national and global levels; and finds ways to improve the effectiveness and quality of health systems and services, particularly primary care.

The WIPH research spans understanding of, and action to influence, the determinants of health and health-related behaviours, and improve the early detection of disease. The WIPH is renowned for its expertise in developing and applying methods for evaluating the effects of public health and clinical interventions and is home to the Queen Mary University of London Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU), one of eight core funded CRUK Clinical Trials Units.

As part of this campaign, we are looking to further strengthen our research offering in and would welcome interest from individuals who have expertise in the areas of: Epidemiology and prevention strategies for cardiovascular disease, neurology and cancer; health data and AI, primary care research; or psychiatry and mental health.
