College Secretary

University of Oxford - Exeter College

Location: Oxford
Salary: £36,024 to £44,263 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 10th May 2024
Closes: 28th May 2024

Exeter College (part of the University of Oxford) is seeking to appoint a College Secretary to assist senior College Officers in the execution of their duties, especially those dealing with the governance of the College.

The College Secretary sits at the heart of the College’s governance procedures and wider administration, and offers a wide variety of responsibilities with many opportunities to take ownership of projects and to give creative input. In particular, the postholder will provide practical administrative support to the Governing Body (the most senior executive body within the College) and to selected other College meetings, and will support the wider governance work of the College. A key aspect of the role will be to ensure the timely follow-up (including by other members of the College) of actions arising from these meetings.

You should have strong experience of committee servicing and minute-taking, including the ability to digest and accurately capture the essence of fast-paced, complex discussions. In addition, you will have excellent organisation and prioritisation skills, and the ability to work successfully with a wide range of stakeholders (including senior managers). Strong IT skills are a must, as is the ability to take initiative and to work independently.

Experience of working in a governance role for a charity or in Higher Education would be an advantage, as would a governance or Company Secretary qualification; however, neither of these are essential.

Salary will be at a point on Grade 7 of the University’s Salary Scale (currently £36,024 to £44,263 per annum), depending on experience, skills and qualifications. Benefits include a generous annual leave entitlement, contributory pension, free lunch when on duty, and optional membership of subsidised dental and/or healthcare schemes.

The post is advertised on a full-time basis, but the College is able to consider applications from those who wish to work part-time (e.g. an average of 0.8 FTE, where the postholder works full-time during the three academic terms, and works c. 0.6 FTE during the Vacation periods).

Further Particulars and details of how to apply are available from https://www.exeter.ox.ac.uk/vacancies/college-secretary/ or by emailing vacancies@exeter.ox.ac.uk.

The closing date for applications is 12pm noon (BST) on Tuesday 28 May 2024, with interviews expected to be held in Oxford on Monday 17 June 2024.
