Evaluation of Technologically enabled medication devices and medicine adherence, TEMDMA

The Division of Health Research (DHR) within Lancaster University’s Faculty of Health and Medicine is seeking to fill a Research Associate position.

In this role, you will join a 2-year research project funded by NHS England via Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board, in which Lancaster University is the evaluation partner. The project involves evaluation of using technology-enabled smart medication devices to manage medication adherence in social care recipients. The evaluation will explore benefits, facilitators, barriers and cost impacts of employing such devices, with an emphasis on what works for whom and what contextual factors or mechanisms may make it work. You will play a key role in conducting the research and disseminating its findings. You will work with an interdisciplinary team.

This role as the lead researcher supporting the evaluation includes data collection from care recipients and care provider organisations and analysing quantitative and qualitative data at multiple data collection time points. You will use implementation research methods to drive this. You will help maintain relationships with NHS and Local Government colleagues, and assist in recruiting participating organisations, and ensure key milestones are met. You will be responsible for writing up the research findings for publications and required reporting. You will work as part of a team and be able to work independently and flexibly.

You will have a PhD in Health Research, Public Health or a relevant applied social sciences discipline, or a Masters level degree plus equivalent research experience. You will have experience of quantitative and qualitative research methods and analyses. Knowledge and experience of ethics applications, and collecting, managing and analysing mixed methods data are essential, as is experience of liaising with and collecting data with people who may be experiencing poor health or cognitive impairment. It would be advantageous to have knowledge and/or experience within the project’s relevant topic areas such as ageing, telehealth, implementation evaluation. The post may involve travel within the region.

Our team and the Division of Health Research provides a friendly environment that strongly supports the individual needs of each employee and promotes a healthy work-life balance. The Faculty is committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies and has held a Silver Athena SWAN award since 2014 in recognition of its good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.

The position is available from June 2024.  We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements, within a full-time contract. This role could be undertaken as a hybrid-working position with a minimum of three days a week working at the Health Innovation campus.

You will join Lancaster University on an indefinite contract; however, the role remains contingent on external funding, which is due to come to an end 24 months from commencement of contract.
