The mission of the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health is to improve the health and well-being of children, and the adults they will become, through world-class research, education and public engagement. The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America. GOS ICH’s activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. The Institute offers world-class education and training across a wide range of teaching and life learning programmes which address the needs of students and professional groups who are interested in and undertaking work relevant to child health.

About the role

An opportunity has become available to join a team of researching childhood solid cancers with interests in disease treatment and monitoring. The appointee will provide research support to the team through assistance in the management of the research lab. Approximately 50% of the role will involve routine tasks such as ordering stock keeping and aliquoting. There will also be an opportunity to receive training in technical skills such as cell culture, viral transduction and animal studies. The appointee will have a senior post doctoral member of the team for day to day lab management and will fall under the overall line management of Professor John Anderson. The salary offered in this role is £30,138 - £32,979 per annum and is funded for 2 years in the first instance.

About you

The ideal candidate for this role will have as minimum a batchelor’s degree in biological science ad previous experience working in a research laboratory and with experimental animals. Ideally the candidate will hold a UK Home Office approved personal license (PIL) for work with laboratory animals. They will enjoy team working and gain satisfaction from contributing technical assistance to several research projects.
