An exciting opportunity to work as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate has arisen as part of a collaboration project between OTM Servo Mechanism Ltd and Cranfield University.  The project will focus on the development of flight control systems that are closely coupled with the aircraft effector actuators.

About Aerospace Centre for Aeronautics and OTM

You will work closely with the team at OTM and the Dynamics Simulation and Control Group in Cranfield’s Centre for Aeronautics. OTM design and manufacture world-class actuator solutions for, among others, the aerospace sector. The Centre for Aeronautics is one of the world’s largest centres for postgraduate education and research in aircraft design, aerodynamics, advanced modelling and simulation tools and methods.

About the Role

You will lead the implementation of a flight control computer. This will include developing knowledge on the flight control avionics standards and requirements. You will also test practical flight control algorithms with simulation models and implement these into a modular flight control computer that complies with industry standards, as well as continue development of a hardware-in-the-loop system. This will involve design and development of flight control computer electronics and PCB design.

About You

Experience in control or avionics systems modeling, development, or simulation, including coding and algorithm development using MATLAB/Simulink, is essential. Knowledge of real-time systems and communication is desirable. Strong software skills and the ability to code for embedded systems are required. Previous experience in control systems specification and design is preferred. The role involves developing control algorithm simulation and implementation to industry standards.

Project and time management skills, independent work capability, and clear communication of complex information are necessary. A Postgraduate degree (MEng/MSc) in aerospace engineering, control systems, mechatronics, or related fields is required, and a PhD in these areas is advantageous.
