ABOUT US

IOE is UCL Faculty of Education and Society.

Founded in 1902, IOE has been shaping policy and helping government, organisations and individuals navigate a changing society for the last 120 years. We embrace collaboration and excellence to create a future that is inclusive and just, and have been ranked number one for education every year since 2014 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The department of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment is a world-leading centre for economics, geography, business, mathematics, science and humanities education. A core strength of the Department is in the study, support and improvement of pedagogy, curriculum and assessment through multidisciplinary programmes. The Department hosts top-rated initial teacher education programmes, incorporating Secondary PGCE, School Direct and Teach First, innovative Masters programmes and a wide range of continuing professional development courses.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The MA Education is a thriving programme which regularly recruits large cohorts of home and international students. We aim to support students to articulate, explain and justify their own position within the complex and diverse field of education. We are looking to recruit a Lecturer in Education to be part of this programme.

You will be involved in taking on a number of tutees, and to assist with student recruitment across the programme areas. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching across range of modules including our compulsory modules ‘What is Education?’ and ‘Understanding Research?’. In addition, you will contribute to the development of courses and programmes in Education, and you will be using a range of monitoring and evaluation techniques to assess the effectiveness of courses and programme delivery. It would be desirable but not essential that the successful candidate has a specialism in – and the ability to contribute to – the Educational Assessment specialist MA Route, in addition to the general MA Education route.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have a Masters degree or relevant experience in an area relevant to Education. You will have experience of working effectively with postgraduates studying on an MA Education, particularly in a tutoring role, and have a good knowledge of a wide range of learning and teaching approaches suited to the learning needs of postgraduate students.

In addition, the successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively with a range of academic and administrative colleagues and helping the team achieve its goals, and be proficient in the use of Information and Communication Technologies to support teaching and students.

Your application form should address all the person specification points and should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the criteria.

It is important that the criteria are clearly numbered and that you provide a response to each one.

While this is a full time (1FTE) role, applications at lower FTEs will be considered. Please state on your application if you are applying for a fractional FTE.
