Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Climate Litigation)

• Remuneration: Level B from $123,620 and Level C from $ 150,148 (as of 1^st July 2024) + 17% superannuation and annual leave loading
• Location: Kensington Campus, NSW (Hybrid working)  

Why your role matters:

In the past decade, climate risk has evolved from a problem existing within the physical sciences to one that affects almost every economic sector. Industries are now well-aware that climate change poses major challenges in the form of economic, social and governance risks and stakeholders are increasingly undertaking litigation to hold them accountable for their performance on that front.

The UNSW Institute for Climate Risk & Response (ICRR) brings together a unique blend of expertise in climate science, behavioural science, economic science, law and governance in order to help industry action these changes.

This appointment of a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Climate Litigation) to the Institute will promote the achievement of these aims and objectives. Specifically, you will be required to undertake a program of research that will have significant impact in the scholarship related to the field of climate litigation in Australia and globally and create a nationally recognised research track record. You will apply and, where necessary adapt, existing research methods, and develop new methods, to the study of climate litigation.

This position is based in Kensington NSW Australia. The position reports to the Director of the ICRR and will maintain close research ties with the School of Private and Commercial Law in UNSW’s highly rated (12^th globally in QS’24) Faculty of Law and Justice.

About you

Skills and Experience required for this position (but not limited to):

• A PhD in Law related to the principles, processes and practices of civil litigation and/or relevant litigation-related research experience within the discipline of Law. Prior experience in climate litigation specifically would be attractive but is not essential.
• Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
• Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
• Experience in educational activities and/or outreach.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
• Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
